Mark Lubas, Tenor

Mark Lubas made his professional debut in 1996 as the tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Nashville Symphony, in the historic Ryman Auditorium. While in Nashville, he performed for two seasons as an ensemble member with the Nashville Opera.

Mark holds two Master of Music degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music in Vocal Performance and Opera Studies, and while attending, was selected as a principal artist in the Aspen Opera Theatre Company, Natchez Opera, and Ash Lawn-Highland Summer Music Festival.

Mr. Lubas is known for his full-blooded performances of tenor roles including Rodolfo (La Boheme), Alfredo (La Traviata), Ferrando (Cosi fan Tutte), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) and many others in venues across the United States. He can be heard on a recording of Douglas Moore’s The Devil and Daniel Webster, in which he performed the title role (Devil) with Granite State Opera (NH).

He is an acclaimed originator of roles, including The Juror in the World Premiere of Tod Machover’s Resurrection with Boston Lyric Opera and Johnnie in Brian Hulse’s The Game at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Concert engagements include tenor soloist in the Verdi Requiem, Mendlessohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and many other oratorios, masses, and major choral works. Other featured roles include Chip in Leonard Bernstein’s On the Town with Choral Artists of Sarasota, Dr. Blind in Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus at Opera Tampa, Scrooge in A Christmas Carol – The Concert with the Pops Orchestra of Sarasota, Frederick in Pirates of Penzance with the Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota, and Nemorino in L’Elisir D’Amore with the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) Opera Theatre

Off the stage, Mr. Lubas is a highly experienced and sought-after voice teacher, whose students are found on professional stages throughout the United States and around the world. He has more than 28 years of voice teaching experience, including serving as Adjunct Professor of Voice at both the University of Tampa in Tampa, FL and at State College of Florida in Bradenton, FL, and is completing his journey toward his Doctorate of Voice & Opera at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado.
